Name a character that you know I write/draw or have written/drawn, and I'll tell you:
a. What initially prompted me to write/draw them.
b. One of their best traits.
c. One of their worst traits.
d. How easy/difficult I find it to write/draw the character.
e. The moment where I feel that I truly captured the character.
f. My plans to write/draw the character in the near future.
I have a bejeezus load of characters but suck and never post drawings of them on here. For anyone I've talked to at length about characters, you might rememberrr:
[From Neufverse] - Neuf-Gateaux, Crassicornis, Raffia, Lah, Ikeda, Fierro
[From Laufetverse] - Laufet, Aurel, Claude, Seylor, Sieghausen, Machior de Linden
[Misc] - Hiryuu, Roscoe
I really need to start drawing...everyone..more.

We attack at dawn. And by dawn I mean three in the afternoon.
1. Raffia Regato
a. What initially prompted me to write/draw him
I think I wanted some kind of modern samurai that dressed jazzy with Spike Spiegal influences. Raff ended up not really being like Spike though because Spike is infinitely cool and Raff's much dorkeir. Oh and I think I wanted someone with that funky cornrow topknot hair, whatever it is.
b. One of his best traits
Well he's really easygoing and friendly. It takes a lot to get him down.
c. One of his worst traits
I guess that he gets really competitive, but is kind of lazy about training unless he can spar with Neuf, Lah or Ikeda. He also forgets lyrics very easily even though he sings and hums all the time.
d. How easy/difficult I find it to write/draw him
I haven't really written him much, but he'd probably be fairly straightforward to write. Drawing him is kind of hard for some reason because his hair makes his head a funky shape and I always end up proportioning him wrong.
e. The moment where I felt I truly captured his character
I think when I was playing around with his color scheme and finally got it down for his typical outfit. He tends to wear warm colors [except he likes dark blue] and for some reason it just goes with his character to me.
f. My plans to write draw him for the near future
Well since Raff's kind of a connection between Neuf's group and Lah's gang, he's kind of important I guess. And he did make it to Trio. Raff's fun. I need to develop him a lot more, he's impossibly behind Neuf and Crass in that respect.
And 2. Lah
a. What prompted me to invent him?
Ahaha...Kung Fu Hustle. Though he's not really like Brother Sum, he was originally inspired by the Axe Gang in that movie. I wanted a polished looking mob boss character that lead a gang of musically inclined guys in suits. Lah deviated and ended up being very not-evil though with Kato instead becoming the evil dude. Lah's also partly influenced by Jin from Samurai Champloo. Together, Lah and his wife are vaguely inspired by the Landlady and her husband from Kung Fu Hustle. I love that movie, we should watch it.
b. A best trait
As far as samurai mafia bosses go, Lah is oddly saintly. Might not even end up being a mafia at all. Lah is selfless and has a strong bond with everyone in his gang, especially Ikeda. He's also a very clever fighter.
c. A worst trait
Hm. I'm not even sure what's wrong with him yet except that he smokes [from a cool pipe.] His weakness would be his feelings for those close to him. If something happened to Ikeda or his wife he'd be a huge puddle of emotional mess. After swiftly avenging them.
e. Moment where I truly captured him
Haha, like with a pokeball. Ha. Ahem. Well figuring out his grin and eyes was important. Neuf and Laufet are often depressed or deadpan, Crass is upbeat, Ikeda is embarassed or annoyed. Lah tends to look easygoing and friendly but keen and...asianish..
f. Plans for the future
Man, Lah's developed his own huge story within Neufverse. He has quite a bit of backstory that leads up to his role in what I consider Neufverse's present timeline. He doesn't join Neuf directly like Raff but he and the gang help out. He has his own little plot involving what's happened between him and his rival Kato in the past.
Cheezus that was long. I need some water now.

my status message: "Arielle get cho ass online!!!"
Geoff: well i may not be arielle, but my ass is online.
Me: well then i give you props on knowing who you are and where your ass is.
Well I'll give it a shot anyway.
Roscoe Basil Bascombe
a. I have 3 real main characters not counting Roscoe. Hiryuu, who is also less developed, is a warrior type of hero. Laufet is a composer of 18th/19th century Germany. Neuf is a wizardly genius on his own epic quest to investigate and destroy the great evil he first encountered in his clocktower duel while also trying to figure out who he is.
Roscoe's a guy. A well-dressed, artistically savvy guy, but a guy. He lives in the city, in our own time. I wanted the story involving Roscoe [and that girl...why can I never name girls?] to be about normal people trying to find something poetic in their lives.
b. He coordinates his clothing... Well he helps that girl with gathering up the courage and will to pursue her dreams. That's always swell.
c. Roscoe probably has several flaws but isn't yet developed enough. I guess one would be that he tends to be unconcerned with practical things.
d. ...I'll let you know when I actually write from his perspective rather than the girl's. He's not terribly hard to draw though.
e. Like a lot of my characters, the current Roscoe evolved, visually, from an earlier character called Fulcrum. I think Roscoe started to emerge when I gave him a scarf and a cardigan and a fedora and spent forever figuring out his full name.
f. Well you guys seem to like I Remember Rooftops... I think this story would be better told from the girl's perspective. Roscoe was intended to represent one of those ordinary people that come into your life unexpectedly and have this big impact on your outlook and who you are. You know, that's kind of the feeling I was trying to portray in my college essay on Landis. I find those kinds of relationships interesting.
The Wizard Neuf-Gateaux
a. What initially prompted me to create Neufcakes?
Umm honestly I pretty much wanted a character that looked like an evil creeper. Neuf doesn't look terribly evil now but I assure you the very first Neuf looked like the leader of a demon circus parade. As he took on a bigger part, I decided I wanted him to be a hero character with stereotypically "evil" powers rather than "good" powers. Because pfft every good wizard has light magic. I made his trademark cakehat after Amichi said his original striped tophat looked like a cake. Erin provided the sexyfine name.
b. A best trait
A genius at most things, especially magic, fighting, and cakes. He's pretty complicated though. He's not upbeat or very optimistic but he's a dreamer and can still believe in people even though most of the people in his life have sucked. I guess the best thing about Neuf is that he does what's right just cause it's right.
c. A worst trait
He can be obsessive when it comes to hunting down answers to certain mysteries central to his past. He's also confused about a lot of things involving his own identity and as a result of being pretty isolated growing up, he's often outwardly cold and indifferent to strangers and awkward around people that are becoming close to him.
d. How easy is it to write/draw him?
Neuf's been hanging out in my head long enough that it's usually pretty easy to write him and it's very easy to quickly whip out a basic Neuf. There's a method to how I do his hair, his jaw, etc. Sometimes it can be difficult to write him though if I'm developing something about him that's still vague. Like I said, he's complicated. Usually I try to figure out what the right questions are to ask myself about him and then answer them in a way that suits Neuf.
e. Moment I first truly captured him
Hmm that's tough. Deciding his magic affinity was shadow was a huge part of his character because it meant he'd be this little prodigy wizard taken away from his parents by people who wanted to train him to be some kind of savior or idol, only to be later despised and exiled by them based on a shallow stigma.
Another important part of developing Neuf was establishing his relationships with Cal and Crass because after being unjustly cast out of the magic academy he could easily have turned just as evil as people expected him to be, being an all-powerful shadow mage and such. Crass and later Cal both inspired Neuf not to worry so much about appearances and expectations and to just do what he feels is right - baking cakes and saving the world without any retarded magisters controlling him.
f. Plans for the future
I think about Neufverse literally every second of the day, even if on the back burner. Neuf and his story have come surprisingly far but still have a lot of development to get through. I basically consider everything I read or learn as somehow relevant to developing his story. The badassest thing ever would be to one day have an animated series/movie, a manga, or some funky combination of literary/visual storytelling based on Neufverse.
That was a long damn bit of Neuf. I didn't even get to Crass. Maybe eventually when I'm bored again.
